Innovative Grant recipient Alice Morley, an art teacher at Mount Tabor High School, used her grant funds to implement a project that merged art history, fashion and pop culture. Sneaker customization is a huge trend on social media and in fashion. Brands like Adidas, Nike and Vans have also capitalized on this trend. This project was viewed as a way to introduce students to the positive impact that art has on their daily lives. Students were required to study famous artists, and use the information gathered to create a unique shoe design. Students worked in a 3 step process; research, planning and execution. To end the project, students participated in a “Fashion Shoe.” Students modeled their finished products and received critiques based on composition, color usage and connection to his/her selected artist.

Below are customized shoes created during the project.
